Breathe to Write

My name is Izabell Key. I am the author of the Shadow Ballet book series, Betrayal and The Beginning of the End. Writing books has been the most challenging and enjoyable journey of my 33 years of life. I will share some of my thoughts about that with you.

Writing is not just about putting words on a page—it’s about sharing a piece of your soul with the world. For me, the journey began long before my first published work hit the shelves. Let’s just say I found the path from dreams to reality in books. Sometimes, when life deals you the short straw, you make your own straw. In fact, you don’t create just your own straw, you can even create your own haystack! That’s what I did. Fantasy worlds in fiction, heartfelt stories filled with romance and suspense—writing was my escape. At the age of 28, I realized I had accumulated too many stories, and I felt the need to share.

This deep desire of revealing the stories I created in my mind led to a mind full of words, long sleepless nights, lots of coffee, and cigarettes. I can hear Otis Redding in my head. Those were the days when I scribbled down every thought in my head onto anything I could find—my phone, napkins, a journal, or random scraps of paper. This things never changes. Like many writers, I faced challenges along the way—self-doubt, rejection letters, and moments where the path forward seemed unclear, and I still do. But each hurdle only fuels my determination to keep going. If you’re a writer, don’t let them discourage you.

If you’re a fellow traveler on this tough road, don’t give up! Don’t write for trends or others’ expectations; write for yourself. Write, so your writer voice can be heard—but first, you must hear it! In other words, if you’ve created your haystack, you’ll need to find the needle. I wish you the best of luck with that.

Shadow Ballet: Betrayal was my first step toward making that faint writer voice, once heard only by me, known to others. Each piece I wrote is infused with my own thoughts, experiences, fantasies, and blends what I’ve lived and dreamed into a mysterious world filled with imperfections. Shadow Ballet is a story rich with layers of intense emotions and strong characters which I hope to resonate with you. I truly hope you find parts of yourself in my book because this book is my invitation to you—an invitation to a world you’ll feel so close to yourself but at the same time too far. So, consider yourself invited!

So, you have the key now! May this key lead you to some doors that you didn't even know exist deep inside you. May my stories serve as a mirror, reflecting different chapters of your life. I hope them to lead you to the time when you were consumed by love or when you stumbled and fell. May they remind you the times when your hunger for power blinded you, and the price you paid was losing the ones you cared for most, or take you back to the time when loneliness overwhelmed you, and you silently struggled with suicidal thoughts that quietly crept into your mind. I hope you to look back without fear, realizing how strong you’ve become, and feel a sense of pride for overcoming those all. Who knows? Perhaps my stories will lead you to the moment when a deep sense of joy washed over you, finally realizing your long-awaited dream, or fell blindly in love at first sight, filling you with the joy of spring. May my stories let you live realities you could never experience. I hope this key to open every door you need!

Shadow Ballet-Betrayal by Izabell Key, to me it seemed like female version of 'Sin City' (movie). Jerry, the son of a crime-boss gets hamstrung during the powerplays of organised crime, gets shot and left for dead, but and angel of night, a prostitute named Lin has mercy on Mr. Jerry and grants him shelter. That is a daring recipe, full of potential and social, or amorous, intric acies! Izabell Key challenges our expectations, keeps up guessing about happu end or a downward spiral, and chose a cover style reminding of noir-classic or modern noir sub-genres.
